Inside Scoop: Spring Fling 2026

           TJ Edmund - April 2026

As preparations continue for the first Spring Fling, executive board members shared via email why the event matters.

The event is designed as an inclusive space for all ages and abilities, welcoming families to Fellowship Hall for a tea party and adaptive egg hunt.

Program Director Delaney said the event was built with intention.

“The idea behind this event is to create an inclusive spring-themed experience where children with disabilities can hunt for eggs, socialize, dance, and make crafts.”

“The idea behind this event is to create an inclusive spring-themed experience where children with disabilities can hunt for eggs, socialize, dance, and make crafts.”

The Spring Fling builds on past gatherings, introducing new elements while continuing traditions that have resonated with families.

“I hope to continue the dance party that guests have with our DJ. It’s often a way for kids to socialize without speaking to each other, which could be a barrier for some disabled children who are nonverbal.”

Volunteer Coordinator Xachil explained that the foundation of each event begins with the people working behind the scenes.

“Volunteers are essential to our events. They help set up, keep everything running smoothly, and make it possible for families to simply enjoy the experience.”

She described an organizational culture rooted in collaboration, noting that the board functions like a family. “The same enthusiasm that [volunteers] are putting towards our events, we give right back to them.’’

“The same enthusiasm that [volunteers] are putting towards our events, we give right back to them.’’

Some special moments last long after an event wraps up.

“At our Christmas Social, volunteers stepped up to dress as characters,” she said. “They were dancing, taking photos, and interacting with every child. It was a beautiful moment.”

For individuals considering becoming volunteers, she kept it simple.

“People sometimes feel unsure because they don’t know anyone,” she said. “But that’s the best part – you leave having made connections.”

Fundraising Chair Paula reiterated the impact of the event goes far beyond a single day.

“At its core, fundraising is about guaranteeing the future of the organization. It ensures every child and family we serve continues to have opportunities, support, and a community that believes in them.”

For her, the work is also deeply personal. “As a parent of a child with special needs it can be very easy to feel overwhelmed at times, but I never want to complain about a problem or issue unless I am personally doing something to be a part of a solution.’’

“I’m motivated by the families we serve. I know firsthand how meaningful it is to walk into a space where your child is fully accepted and celebrated.”

“I’m motivated by the families we serve. I know firsthand how meaningful it is to walk into a space where your child is fully accepted and celebrated.”

Board member Michelle looks forward to witnessing the impact in real time.

“The looks on the children’s faces when they find an egg or take a picture with the Easter Bunny — those moments say everything,” she said.

She commented on a common myth that many nonprofit organizations face.

"We’re doing more than raising money — we’re creating inclusive spaces, supporting families with resources, and giving parents a chance to relax in an environment where they feel comfortable.”

“People don’t always see what goes on behind the scenes in a nonprofit...We’re doing more than raising money — we’re creating inclusive spaces, supporting families with resources, and giving parents a chance to relax in an environment where they feel comfortable.”

For me, storytelling has always been about capturing moments that matter. In my role as Communications Manager, I’m able to do that in real time —highlighting the joy, connection, and impact behind each event.

           Resource Recycler: An In-Depth Analysis

           TJ Edmund, March 2026

When healthcare systems fall short, communities step up.

At From We Can’t to We Can, we work with families navigating a healthcare system that is often slow, inaccessible, and overwhelming – especially when support is needed most. Long waitlists. Rising costs. Insurance denials. Essential medical equipment treated as optional instead of necessary.

Resource Recycler exists because access should never depend on timing, coverage status, or individual circumstances. It is our community-powered medical equipment donation and redistribution program, designed to restore dignity, mobility, and independence – without delay.

           The Access Gap

Durable medical equipment – wheelchairs, standers, gait trainers, bath chairs, and communication tools – can change lives. Yet for many individuals and families, accessing these items is one of the hardest parts of care.

Insurance approvals can take months or be denied altogether. Children outgrow equipment quickly. Adults may experience sudden medical changes that require immediate solutions. At the same time, gently used equipment sits unused in homes, garages, and storage units.

The need exists. The resources exist. The system does not connect them.

Currently, Resource Recycler operates out of a single 10 x 15 storage unit in Southern New Jersey. While every inch is carefully organized, growing demand limits how much we can accept, store, and distribute.

A permanent physical location would allow us to:

Why Resource Recycler Matters – Right Now

While national discussions focus on healthcare policy and reform, families need solutions today. Resource Recycler:

Reduces wait times for essential equipment

            Supports uninsured and underinsured individuals

Promotes sustainability by reducing medical waste

In a system where accessibility is often delayed or denied, Resource Recycler delivers immediate relief – and lasting impact.

           Keeping the Cycle Moving

Resource Recycler thrives because of community involvement. Every donated item, shared post, volunteer hour, and heartfelt conversation helps us ensure no one is left waiting, worrying, or going without. When traditional systems fall short, communities rise together. Resource Recycler turns compassion into action – one piece of equipment, one family helped, one connection at a time.

This year’s Christmas Social marked a meaningful step forward for the nonprofit: our first holiday celebration in a larger, more accessible venue. The added space did more than accommodate a growing crowd – it gave families the breathing room to feel at ease, welcomed, and fully included.

From the moment families arrived, the atmosphere felt warm and intentional despite the winter chill. Children moved comfortably between sensory-friendly activities, craft stations, and holiday games, while DJ Prodigy set the tone with festive favorites and pop culture hits. We’re grateful to Hands Up Silent Theater and West Chester singer Mia Rodriguez for helping us bring Christmas joy to our new space.

Santa’s visit sparked excitement and wintry magic, but what made it truly special was the flexibility the expanded venue allowed. Each child was able to meet with Santa in a way that felt right for them, supported by volunteers and members of the Executive Board who were always nearby to offer gentle smiles and a helping hand.

One parent shared: “I can’t take Luke anyplace else because he’s loud and runs and screams so Luke’s only opportunity to see Santa is at your event.” – Corrine Good, mother of Cole and Luke

“I can’t take Luke anyplace else because he’s loud and runs and screams so Luke’s only opportunity to see Santa is at your event.”

Volunteers – some returning from past seasonal events – moved with purpose and care, helping ensure every child could participate with confidence and independence. Kids with disabilities explored freely, knowing the environment was designed with them in mind. That sense of safety – of being seen and understood – carried more meaning than any decoration or treat ever could.

“I enjoyed the event so much – everyone was incredibly kind. Performing with Hands Up Silent Theater at such a beautiful celebration is an experience I’ll never forget.” – Haley Bailey, craft table volunteer

Throughout the day, the energy remained heartfelt: joyful without being overwhelming. Families left with full hearts, and children of all ages and abilities were able to ring in the winter season in a space that welcomed them exactly as they are.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our event sponsor, Masso’s Event Center, and to our growing community of partners – including TAC Hauling, Grungo Law, Caterina Speaks, and Colgate-Palmolive – who showed up when it mattered most. Thanks to the generosity of Grungo Law, two children received bicycles they can cherish for years to come.

The mother of one of the bike recipients shared: “Our family shared a truly special moment when Leo, almost five & rockin’ an extra chromosome, received a brand-new bike and helmet. His excitement was wonderful to see. This event is a beautiful reminder of how inclusion and community support can make a lasting impact on families like ours.

"We are incredibly grateful for the generosity and care that made this day so meaningful. Getting to see Santa made the day even more magical.”

As the celebration drew to a close, that warmth lingered. Not the loud excitement of a party ending, but the soft glow that comes from connection— real human connection.

This year’s Christmas Social wasn’t just another ordinary holiday gathering; it was our mission in motion. With greater accessibility, more space, and heartfelt moments of genuine joy, the celebration became a reminder of what’s possible when families are supported with intention and heart. We look forward to carrying this momentum into the year ahead – continuing to create spaces where “

Every year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, people around the world pause the holiday rush and shift their focus toward something more meaningful – giving. For nonprofit organizations like ours, Giving Tuesday is more than a tradition; it’s a powerful reminder of what can happen when generosity, hope, and action come together to create lasting change for children with disabilities and their families.

Whether someone donates $5, $50, or $500, their gift does more than fund our programs — it helps children feel seen, supported, and celebrated. Each year, we hear from parents who finally found the medical equipment their child needed or from families who share the joy of watching their child participate without fear of being excluded.

Transformation begins with people -- with you.

Comedian and activist Margaret Cho captured this perfectly: “Sometimes when we are generous in small, barely detectable ways it can change someone’s life forever.” That sentiment lies at the heart of Giving Tuesday — proof that even the smallest kindness can make a lasting difference.

Our mission is deeply rooted in transformation, but transformation begins with people — with you. Every donation, every share, every volunteer reflects a belief in each child’s potential.

This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to be part of that ripple again.

            Donate what you can.

            Share our story.

Remind others that change begins with generosity.

When we give together, we do more than give back — we build a community grounded in compassion, inclusion, and endless possibilities.

The holiday season often moves faster than we expect – shopping trips blur together, wish lists grow, and suddenly another year has passed. Yet for 12 families this season, one gift stood apart from the rest: an inclusive, professional portrait session made possible by our friends at

In partnership with our nonprofit, the studio opened its doors to families who might not otherwise have the opportunity to capture professional photos. Each session became a moment to pause – to laugh, to smile wide, and to preserve the connections that make each family unique.

Families arrived in their festive best, sharing what the opportunity meant to them. One mother, raising two children with disabilities, explained how meaningful a welcoming environment can be.

“This was a very welcoming experience—at no point did we feel uncomfortable or judged. We can’t thank you enough for doing this not only for our daughters, but for allowing us to share this great experience with them. Thank you for everything you do for these children and us parents.”

“Wow! What a phenomenal organization with outstanding people who truly care about inclusion! … My daughter is disabled, and we’ve been lucky enough to be part of their fashion show, Halloween event, and now a Christmas photo shoot. She absolutely adores Trinity and everyone who helps at the events. Without this organization, we wouldn’t have had these amazing opportunities for Chavoney. We are so thankful.”

We extend heartfelt gratitude to Desiree and Stacy for donating their time, talents, and care to make these moments possible. Thanks to their generosity, each family left with more than photographs—they carried home lasting memories and a reminder that love and belonging are gifts that never fade.

Together, we’ve proven that nothing is impossible.

To coincide with the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), on Saturday, July 26, we proudly celebrated our own milestone—the seventh anniversary of our nonprofit—through our beloved biannual fundraiser, Including You! Runway. Held at Rowan University’s Pfleeger Concert Hall, the event welcomed hundreds of passionate donors, dedicated volunteers, and community members for an unforgettable evening dedicated to improving the lives of families with disabilities across our region.

The magic of the evening wasn’t just in the lights, music, or fashion—it was in the stories of the families who took the runway. For many, Including You! represents more than an event; it’s a chance to be seen, celebrated, and appreciated for exactly who they are.

For parents like Rebekah, the joy was in watching their children’s confidence shine through, before, during, and after the show. Including You! provides families with a space to connect, share their experiences of triumph and hardship, and celebrate the truth that everyone belongs.

A child often starts to understand who they are through the way others speak to them. Not in medical reports or progress notes, but in the ordinary, in-between moments—a passing comment in the grocery store, a coach’s words at soccer practice, or a curious question at the dinner table.

, we’ve seen just how powerful those everyday words can be. When someone calls a wheelchair a “way to get around” instead of a “limitation,” it sends a message:

You matter. Your experience matters. And difference isn’t something to fix—it’s something to understand and celebrate.

Families aren’t asking for perfect scripts. They want language that reflects the whole child—not just a diagnosis, and not just what they can or can’t do. They want words that honor who their children are becoming.

That’s the heart of inclusive language. It acknowledges diversity, makes space for self-expression, and leaves room for people to grow. The goal isn’t to speak flawlessly—it’s to speak thoughtfully, and to listen with care. It’s about unlearning old assumptions and showing up with empathy, curiosity, and respect.

When kids hear themselves described in ways that affirm who they are, they carry that with them. They don’t hear limits—they hear possibility. Studies from the Center for Research on Women with Disabilities and the American Society for Cell Biology connect affirming language with stronger self-advocacy and lower self-stigma.

✅ Ask, don’t assume. If you’re not sure what terms someone prefers, it’s always okay to ask.

✅ Always Put the person first. Lead with humanity, not the diagnosis.

✅ Be open to change. Language grows—and we can, too.

Everyday Actions That Make a Difference

Lead with love. If something doesn’t sound right, ask how someone prefers to be described.

Model growth out loud. Say things like, “I used to say __, but now I’ve learned __ is better.”

Celebrate differences. Read books, watch shows and play with toys that feature all kinds of kids.

Stay curious. Let children ask questions. Let yourself ask them, too. It’s okay to say, “I’m still learning.”

Consume media that reflects real kids. Choose books, games, and shows where disability is included—not highlighted, but woven in as part of everyday life.

️ Model self-correction. If you use an outdated term, acknowledge it and try again. Children notice our effort more than our precision.

We’re not just changing words. We’re changing what kids believe about themselves. We’re changing how families advocate. We’re changing what “can” looks like. And it starts here. With all of us. One story, one sentence, one shift at a time.

           Beyond Awareness: A Historical Significance

For decades, April has been recognized as a time dedicated to educating the public about autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, as the autism community and its advocates voiced valid concerns that awareness alone was insufficient, a shift began. Today, Autism Acceptance Month emphasizes not only the understanding but also the embracing and empowerment of autistic individuals. This change reflects a broader movement toward inclusivity, self-advocacy, and greater respect for neurodivergence. But how did we get here?

Autism Awareness Month was first established in April 1970 by the Autism Society of America, at a time when knowledge of autism was limited and often misunderstood. The focus was largely on raising awareness of the condition, with messaging that framed autism as a challenge to be solved rather than a diverse way of experiencing the world. Many early campaigns emphasized finding a "cure" or promoting treatments aimed at making autistic individuals conform to neurotypical norms.

In 1988, Ronald Reagan became the first American president to issue an official proclamation declaring April as National Autism Awareness Month. This made significant progress which allowed individuals with autism to be recognized as everyday citizens and capable of leading more productive lives.

While well-intentioned, these narratives often overlooked the voices of autistic people themselves. Many felt that awareness efforts reinforced stigma, portraying autism as something inherently negative rather than a fundamental aspect of identity for millions worldwide.

In 2007, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously voted to declare April 2 as World Autism Day, a time to raise awareness and celebrate the realities of ASD. In 2008, Autism Speaks launched the first Autism Awareness Month. By 2011, the Autism Self-Advocacy Network (ASAN) began referring to April as Autism Acceptance Month championing the idea that autistic people didn’t need to be "fixed"—they needed to be accepted, accommodated, and included in all aspects of society.

"Autistic people didn’t need to be "fixed"—they needed to be accepted, accommodated, and included in all aspects of society."

ASAN urged individuals and organizations to move beyond passive awareness and toward active support. This meant advocating for policies that promote accessibility, workplace inclusion, and educational accommodations. It also meant celebrating autism as a natural variation of human neurology, rather than a disorder that needed to be "overcome."

One of the most significant shifts in recent years has been the increased visibility of autistic voices in media, education, and public discourse. Autistic-led initiatives have gained momentum, pushing for changes in how autism is discussed and represented. Books, films, and social media platforms have provided spaces where autistic individuals can share their experiences authentically, challenging outdated stereotypes.

Additionally, legislation such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) has played a crucial role in ensuring rights and protections for autistic people. However, advocacy efforts continue, as many still face barriers in employment, healthcare, and everyday accessibility. In 2021, the Autism Society of America swapped “Awareness” for “Acceptance” recommitting itself to better inclusion and increased acceptance of individuals with autism in society.

Autism Acceptance Month is more than just a change in terminology—it’s a recognition that autistic people deserve dignity, respect, and full participation in society. Acceptance means:

Supporting autistic individuals in schools and workplaces with accommodations that help them thrive.

Listening to autistic voices when shaping policies and services that impact their lives.

Challenging harmful misconceptions and embracing autism as part of the natural diversity of human experience.

As we continue to move forward, the message is clear: awareness is only the first step—acceptance is the goal. By fostering environments where autistic individuals are valued and included, we create a world where everyone, regardless of neurology, can reach their fullest potential.

This Autism Acceptance Month, let’s not just acknowledge autism—let’s celebrate and uplift the autistic community in meaningful ways.

Cerebral palsy doesn’t define a person – their strength, resilience, and dreams do, This March, we celebrate the voices, victories, and visibility of the CP community.

During this month, we recognize the unwavering determination and limitless potential of those living with CP in all its forms. Cerebral palsy is the most common lifelong motor disability, affecting more than 17 million people worldwide. But what exactly is CP? It is a group of disorders that impact movement and muscle tone, often caused by brain damage occurring before, during, or shortly after birth. While the severity of CP varies from person to person, individuals with the condition may experience difficulty with motor skills, muscle control, and coordination. However, it’s important to remember that CP does not define an individual’s full potential.

Despite increased awareness, CP often remains an overlooked condition. For many individuals, every day is a testament to strength, perseverance, and the ability to overcome adversity. Yet there is still a pressing need to highlight the importance of early intervention, continuous support, and dismantling societal barriers.

, we are dedicated to promoting empowering stories and authentic representation for all disabled children, especially those living with CP and other motor disorders. As passionate advocates for positive change, we provide essential resources that foster independence and inclusion. Awareness is a crucial first step. By shedding light on the realities of cerebral palsy, we can inspire action and ensure that individuals with CP have the opportunities to thrive—in education, employment, community involvement, and beyond.

Throughout this month, let’s come together to support the CP community. Whether through donating to organizations that assist individuals with cerebral palsy, educating ourselves and others about the condition, or simply listening to the stories of those who live with it, we all have the power to make a difference.

From an early age, I adopted the mindset that adversity could be transformed into meaningful action. That belief is what led me to become both a journalist and a fearless advocate for people like me. My life has not followed a traditional path. Every small step became a triumph. My curiosity, deep appreciation for storytelling, and sense of pride in my identity have driven me to help others navigate obstacles with courage and determination.

As an Asian American, gay, and physically disabled young man, I have faced challenges that could have held me back. Instead, they have fueled my passion for advocating for marginalized communities and inspiring others to create positive change. My personal experiences have shaped my understanding of advocacy and the transformative power of inclusive storytelling.

As a journalist, I strive to share stories of resilience and offer a voice to individuals who have overcome tremendous obstacles with unshakable tenacity and grace. Growing up, characters like me were rarely the protagonists of stories; they were often sidelined or entirely absent. As a writer, I aim to change that narrative, ensuring that every person’s story is told and celebrated.

Every effort I make is deeply personal, yet it is about something larger than myself: helping others find hope, community, and a sense of belonging. These experiences have reinforced a profound truth—when we use our strengths to uplift others, we discover deeper meaning in our own lives.

Through projects like Stonewall Superlatives and my contributions to From We Can’t to We Can, I work to build spaces rooted in trust, kindness, and community. I strive to provide a platform where people feel heard, validated, and empowered. Beyond my professional work, I have found joy in mentoring and leading others, guiding fellow writers as they achieve their own successes.

People often ask me if I wish I could be someone else or if they should feel sympathy for my situation. My response is always the same: I cannot change what has already been written, but I can embrace who I am—and inspire others to do the same.

In 1987, following persistent advocacy from the National Women’s History Project, Congress took a historic step by officially designating March as Women’s History Month. This milestone, established through Pub. L. 100-9, marked the beginning of an annual tradition. Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions urging the President to proclaim March as a time to honor the vital contributions of women throughout history.

This month, we celebrate the incredible achievements of women worldwide—those who have pushed boundaries, defied the odds, and sparked positive change. From pioneering activists to everyday heroes, these women continue to inspire future generations with confidence, creativity, and unwavering determination.

Although she was not disabled herself, Eunice Kennedy Shriver became a tireless advocate for the inclusion of individuals with intellectual disabilities in society. She believed they deserved dignity, respect, and the opportunity to showcase their talents. Inspired by her older sister, Rosemary, who had an intellectual disability, Eunice recognized the unifying power of sports. She championed the idea that, given an equal playing field, individuals with disabilities could achieve the extraordinary.

In 1962, she brought that vision to life by hosting a summer day camp in her backyard—Camp Shriver—which nurtured the athletic abilities of young people with intellectual disabilities while fostering skill development and community impact. What began as a single initiative soon gained momentum, leading to the inaugural International Special Olympics Games in July 1968 in Chicago, Illinois.

At the Opening Ceremony, Eunice declared that the Special Olympics proved “a very fundamental fact”—that children with intellectual disabilities could be exceptional athletes and that “through sports, they can realize their potential for growth.” She pledged that this new organization would provide individuals with intellectual disabilities “the chance to play, the chance to compete, and the chance to grow.”

Since 2017, Tammy Duckworth has served as the junior U.S. Senator from Illinois, breaking barriers with a series of historic firsts. She was the first female helicopter pilot to lead a combat mission, the first double amputee of the Iraq War, the first Thai-American woman elected to Congress, the first woman with a disability to serve in Congress, and the first senator to give birth while in office. Through her groundbreaking achievements, Duckworth continues to advocate for veterans, disability rights, and underrepresented communities.

Judith Heumann is best known for her relentless efforts to advance disability justice. At just two years old, she contracted polio, which left her unable to walk and reliant on a wheelchair. Throughout her life, she faced stigma and discrimination—when she was five, she was denied access to school because officials feared that, since she could not walk, she could not be evacuated in the event of a fire. Years later, after earning a degree in education, she once again encountered discrimination when she was denied a teaching license. Officials doubted her ability to evacuate students during an emergency.

Determined to fight for her rights, Heumann took legal action against the Board of Education and won, becoming the first wheelchair user to teach in New York City. During college, she actively organized protests advocating disability rights, fueling her lifelong commitment to activism.

In 1977, she led the historic Section 504 Sit-In in San Francisco, a pivotal moment in the disability rights movement. She later co-founded the World Institute on Disability and became the first Special Advisor for International Disability Rights at the U.S. State Department, championing the rights of people with disabilities worldwide. She also co-authored her memoir, Being Heumann, along with its young adult adaptation, Rolling Warrior.

Her formative years, from ages nine to eighteen, were spent at Camp Jened, a summer camp in Hunter, New York, for people with physical disabilities. This transformative experience is chronicled in the Oscar-nominated documentary

Rare Disease Day, first proclaimed by the European Organization for Rare Diseases, was initially celebrated on February 29, 2008—a date as rare as the conditions it seeks to highlight. Held on the last day of February each year, this observance raises awareness for rare medical conditions while advocating for equitable treatment and compassionate care.

In the United States, approximately 1 in 10 individuals lives with a rare disease, and half of those affected are children. Globally, over 300 million people face the challenges of these conditions. Advocates, healthcare workers, researchers, and policymakers use Rare Disease Day to shine a spotlight on the urgent needs of this community—whether through advancing treatment options, finding cures, or saving lives. Yet, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a staggering 95% of rare diseases still lack an approved treatment plan.

In a recent interview, Tara H. shared the remarkable journey of her young son. Darian, who is 7 years old. Darian faces a few rare genetic conditions – so rare that one of them is unique to him – that were discovered when he was just a few months old. Every day, he navigates life with a tracheostomy and a feeding tube, is nonverbal, and manages epilepsy and cerebral palsy. Yet, these challenges do not define him. Darian shines as a devoted big brother to his younger sister, Teah, excels academically, and enjoys making new friends. To Tara, he is the epitome of resilience in the face of adversity.

Darian’s life is a wonderful blend of challenges and triumphs. He loves being outdoors, swinging, and bowling, and thrives when surrounded by people who actively engage with him. While his condition sometimes prompts questions—such as, “Why is he in a chair?” or “Why does he need help breathing?”—Tara sees these moments as opportunities for learning and teaching. She recommends other parents to welcome curiosities from children who may be unaware of abilities different than their own. Her advice to parents is clear: become your child’s greatest advocate and never hesitate to ask for help when needed. And for children, she encourages them to keep the faith, always have hope, and embrace change.

Tara hopes that her family’s story teaches a vital lesson: being different does not mean being less. She wants people to recognize that children with special needs—and even those without—are celebrated as unique gifts, each offering important lessons in authenticity and strength. One of Tara’s favorite analogies is, “People are like stained glass: we are all a little broken, and that’s how the light gets in.” She encourages everyone to support their local communities. If you see someone in need, ask how you can help. Get involved with local nonprofits, do your research, make donations if you can, and don’t be afraid to ask for resources. Above all, treat everyone with kindness, especially those who may seem different.

When I was a young child, I cherished stories that brought people together, bridging gaps and forging connections. As I grew older, I quickly recognized an unsettling trend and I searched for a solution– to tell stories where I could see myself reflected and where the diversity of others was celebrated. Determined to make a change, I committed to telling the stories I longed to see, amplifying voices that showcase the beauty of our differences.

This past weekend, the Cumberland Mall came alive with holiday cheer as families gathered for the Inclusive Play Christmas Party. From heartfelt moments with Sensory Santa to the sparkle of creative crafts and the excitement of festive activities, the event radiated warmth and inclusivity. Children of all ages and abilities shared in the joy of the season, making this celebration a shining example of community, friendship, and holiday spirit!

Attendees were treated to a variety of engaging activities, including ornament making, gingerbread decorating, writing letters to Santa, and exploring a Play-Doh station. The event also featured painting, festive paper crafts, and a bookshelf where children could choose a book to take home and cherish. Watching families come together to create lasting memories underscores the importance of gatherings like this. It was a vivid reminder of the mission of From We Can’t to We Can—to amplify the voices of disabled individuals and advocate for their rights through meaningful representation and inclusive opportunities.

Instead, it’s about the love shared by those gathered around it.

For many families, the holiday season is filled with last-minute gift shopping, Santa wish lists, and a flurry of excitement. Amid the chaos, scheduling professional portraits might feel like an extra expense. However, for six families this year, the magic of the holidays was captured thanks to the collaboration between

Through the generosity of a donor, these families had the opportunity to participate in an annual photoshoot that prioritizes inclusion and creates an environment where every child feels seen and celebrated. On November 23, smiles, laughter, and holiday spirit filled the air as families gathered for their timed photo sessions, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

One standout moment was seeing Michael, a young boy born with one club foot and living with a rare genetic disease. For his photo, Michael wore his special medical cape from Little Superheroes, adorned with patches that represent the many challenges he has faced and overcome. His & "Little Superheroes Fighting Big Battles" shirt summed up his story of resilience and hope perfectly.

Joining Michael were several other families who embraced the magic of the moment. AnnaMae and her cousin posed with joy, while Ava and her sisters, surrounded by their parents, beamed with excitement. Juliana and her siblings brought infectious energy, and Ethan, alongside his sisters, lit up the room with their bright smiles.

Desiree and Stacy, the dedicated professionals behind the camera, made sure every family felt comfortable and cared for during their session. Their compassion and commitment shone brightly, exemplifying the true spirit of Christmas – warmth, togetherness, and love.

It’s a reminder of what the holiday season is all about: inclusion, gratitude, and the joy of creating meaningful memories with loved ones. As the families left with their hearts full, one thing was certain – they had experienced the true magic of the holidays.

Held at Harbaugh Village in Mullica Hill from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, the Fall Carnival was a lively in-person event that engaged attendees with interactive fun. The event welcomed many guests and brought the community together to support disability inclusion through entertainment and play. Volunteers played key roles as game attendants, event greeters, costume contest judges, and set-up crew members, making sure the carnival ran smoothly.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our volunteers, sponsors, and attendees for making the Fall Carnival such a memorable and impactful event. I loved seeing the joy on each attendee’s face! It was a privilege to be able to meet amazing people and to have the opportunity to tell their stories. As a child, my favorite part about Halloween was handmade costumes and festive fun with friends. I commend Trinity for organizing events that prioritize children and empower them to be their authentic selves. Stay tuned for future events, including our upcoming winter holiday celebration with Sensory Santa, delicious food, crafts, and much more. Together, we’re building a more inclusive world, one story and one smile at a time!
