Making Spirits Bright By TJ Edmund, January 2026 This year’s Christmas Social marked a meaningful step forward for the nonprofit: our first holiday celebration in a larger, more accessible venue. The added space did more than accommodate a growing crowd – it gave families the breathing room to feel at ease, welcomed, and fully included. From the moment families arrived, the atmosphere felt warm and intentional despite the winter chill. Children moved comfortably between sensory-friendly activities, craft stations, and holiday games, while DJ Prodigy set the tone with festive favorites and pop culture hits. We’re grateful to Hands Up Silent Theater and West Chester singer Mia Rodriguez for helping us bring Christmas joy to our new space. Santa’s visit sparked excitement and wintry magic, but what made it truly special was the flexibility the expanded venue allowed. Each child was able to meet with Santa in a way that felt right for them, supported by volunteers and members of the Executive Board who were always nearby to offer gentle smiles and a helping hand. Kids with disabilities explored freely, knowing the environment was designed with them in mind. That sense of safety – of being seen and understood – carried more meaning than any decoration or treat ever could. “I enjoyed the event so much – everyone was incredibly kind. Performing with Hands Up Silent Theater at such a beautiful celebration is an experience I’ll never forget.” – Haley Bailey, craft table volunteer Throughout the day, the energy remained heartfelt: joyful without being overwhelming. Families left with full hearts, and children of all ages and abilities were able to ring in the winter season in a space that welcomed them exactly as they are. Not the loud excitement of a party ending, but the soft glow that comes from connection— real human connection. This year’s Christmas Social wasn’t just another ordinary holiday gathering; it was our mission in motion. With greater accessibility, more space, and heartfelt moments of genuine joy, the celebration became a reminder of what’s possible when families are supported with intention and heart. For seven years, From We Can’t to We Can has fulfilled its promise to provide safe, authentic support for families navigating disability, all inspired by Trinity’s enduring commitment to her best friend, Alexus. Together, we’ve proven that nothing is impossible. As Nelson Mandela once said, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” And this year, we’ve done it again — bigger, bolder, and more inclusive than ever before. To coincide with the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), on Saturday, July 26, we proudly celebrated our own milestone—the seventh anniversary of our nonprofit—through our beloved biannual fundraiser, Including You! Runway. Held at Rowan University’s Pfleeger Concert Hall, the event welcomed hundreds of passionate donors, dedicated volunteers, and community members for an unforgettable evening dedicated to improving the lives of families with disabilities across our region. The magic of the evening wasn’t just in the lights, music, or fashion—it was in the stories of the families who took the runway. For many, Including You! represents more than an event; it’s a chance to be seen, celebrated, and appreciated for exactly who they are. “This event is so special to us because it gives Lilla and Elias an opportunity, they wouldn’t typically have to really show the world how amazing they are. Guests enjoyed a red-carpet experience with photo opportunities, delicious refreshments, live performances, a live medical equipment donation presentation, gift raffles, and even the debut of a new book—all while supporting our dream of building a permanent space to host seasonal events and safely house equipment from the Resource Recycler year-round.
